Sandy Leaves Spotty Cellphone Service Its Wake - WNYC

The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy is causing widespread power outages and transportation issues. While not nearly as extensive, there are also reports of poor or spotty cell service.

Federal regulators say the storm knocked out a quarter of the cell towers in an area across ten states.?

AT&T confirms it is experiencing ??some issues in areas heavily impacted by the storm.? But the company could not provide details of where or how extensive those issues were.

Verizon Wireless did not respond to requests for information about the status of its network.

Many cell towers that are still working are doing so with the help of generators and could run out of fuel before commercial power is restored, the Federal Communications Commission said.

If you're having problems with cellular service, tell us about it on Twitter with the hashtag #sandycell.
